Off Duty Network

As all of you may be aware, here in Forest Park we have a brother firefighter who's been having a really bad time battling cancer. Jim Hambrick is a Father of 2 beautiful children and the sole provider of income for his family. In Sept. of 2006 he was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus and found that it had gone into his stomach and lymph nodes.  They removed 80% of his esophagus and 20% of his stomach. He was to return to work April of this year. In Feb. of this year he was diagnosed with cancer of the knee.  They had to do a total knee replacement. He was scheduled to return later this year.  Well now a new setback. He has now been diagnosed with brain cancer.  As all of you know, working in public service, this is very serious.  Doctors are 85% sure they can get it all but we here at Forest Park are wishing everyone would keep Jim and his family in your hearts and prayers as we do.

The benefit ride for Jim is what is known as an Iron Butt ride. It will consist of 1000 miles in 24 hours. It is an Iron Butt association sanctioned ride. All we ask is you get sponsors, all money taken in will go to benefit Jim and his family. It will cost you $20 if you pre-register ($25 if you register the day of the ride). If you wish to join the Iron Butt Assoc. it will cost you $42, you will get a certificate, pin, and license plate back with the logo "Iron Butt Association- Worlds Toughest Riders".  I must add you do NOT have to do the whole ride, nor do you have to join the association. This is merely a benefit ride.

The ride will be on Aug. 18th and start at Starr Park in Forest Park, GA.
