History of The Off Duty Network

As most people know, the best workers are referred by "word of mouth" and they don't always advertise, so it is difficult to find them.  What I have done in creating The Off Duty Network is compile the many names that are usually given by "word of mouth" and organized them, on one web page.  Off Duty Network is a list of businesses owned and operated by public safety professionals when they are off duty.

Almost every public safety professional (fire fighter, police officer, sheriff deputy, paramedic or emergency medical technician) has a second job they work when they are off duty.  They work these second jobs along with their full-time public safety jobs to supplement their annual income and to provide these services to you.  I’m sure you are curious how these people maintain a full-time public safety job and have their own business on the side.  Most fire fighters and EMS professionals work twenty-four hours on and forty-eight hours off, which gives them two days off duty between shifts to work their side jobs.  Whereas police officers and sheriff deputies usually work eight or ten hour shifts several days in a row.  They then have a couple days off which gives them time off duty to work their side jobs.

I joined the fire service in 1990, and since then I have met many people in public safety that have the experience and capabilities to build, renovate, and/or provide other services around the home.  From framing (carpentry), electrical, sheet-rock, plumbing, lawn maintenance, tree service and so on.  There are even some specialized and unique services available.  But what is most important is that everyone works in public safety, so you are bringing people into your home that you know you can trust.  I recently purchased a home and using only public safety professionals (except my grandfather), we completely renovated the interior of my home.  I have plans for some outside work as well, and I have already spoken with several public safety professionals about doing the work.

When you call a company to have work done, you don't know what kind of service you are going to receive or if you can trust the people that are going to do the work in your home.  Some companies put their people through training, but then quickly throw them into the work place.  Whereas most public safety professionals work in family run businesses, where their skills have been passed down and perfected over the years.

If you need some work done, please use The Off Duty Network as a resource.  We are sure you will find someone that can help you.  If there is a service you need that is not in The Off Duty Network, please contact me, and I will try to find someone in public safety that provides that service.  Since I know many of the public safety professionals that are advertised in The Off Duty Network, you are welcome to call me for information about the services provided.  When you find a service you need in The Off Duty Network and call about work to be done, please let the public safety professional know you saw their ad on The Off Duty Network.

Most importantly, I want to insure that you receive quality workmanship.  Please contact me and let me know how satisfied you were with the service you received.  With your permission I will use your name and the public safety professional's name that provided the service as a reference for future inquires.

Times have definitely changed from years ago where people took pride in their work. There are only a few people that still take pride in their work and provide quality workmanship.  Your public safety professionals have that pride, but more importantly they are people you can trust.

Welcome to the Off Duty Network
