The Bagpipe is much used by the Irish. To its sounds, this unconquered, fierce, and warlike people march their armies, and are encouraged to feats of valor. With it they also carry their dead to the grave, making such a mournful sound, as to force the bystander to weep". Vincenzo Galilei, 1581

As most of you know, Firefighter Bill
Craddock (DCFD) suffered a massive heart attack on May 4th, 2006
after a working fire. Bill had been in intensive care and on life support at
Emory Hospital until he passed this afternoon (19:45). Bill served almost a
decade on HEAVY 24 in Dekalb County; one of the busiest rigs in Dekalb. Bill
helped us in 2004 during our Truck Company Operations Task Force Training. He
was a HOT (hands on training) instructor at multiple FDIC conferences and has
assisted various Georgia agencies and outside agencies teaching firefighter
safety & survival, truck company operations and RIT. Bill was an incredible man
and fireman. He lived for the fire service and helping people; citizens or
firefighters. Bill was extremely active in the GAFOOLS (Georgia fraternal order
of leatherhead society) and Emerald Society; he coordinated most of the Fools
Night Outs. If you needed something fire related Bill was the man to go. Bill is
gone but not forgotten; he will live on through us not just because he’s a
brother, but the knowledge he’s passed on to us. Every time you vent a roof
using the backside of on axe, take out a window with a roof ladder or slide down
a ladder, think of Bill. Bill left behind his wife Chianti and his four year old
son Colby. A fund has been set up at Bank of America for donations. Please keep
the Craddock family in your thoughts and prayers.
