Georgia Firefighter Line of Duty Death
We regret to advise you that a basic Firefighter student, who collapsed yesterday while participating in a non-burn training evolution at the Georgia Fire Academy, has died in the Line of Duty. While in full gear during a drill, FF Joey Turner, a 48 year old Volunteer Firefighter from Clinch County collapsed from an apparent sudden cardiac arrest. He received immediate on-scene care to include CPR and the use of an AED before being turned over to local EMS. He was transported to Monroe Co. Hospital in critical condition and once stabilized, was transported to the Medical Center of Central Ga. This afternoon the family made the difficult decision to remove life support. Our condolences to all affected by the loss.

Marietta E56 ran a call on Robert Busby “Buzz” (retired Marietta Fire) at his home. Buzz is a retired Captain who tells the funniest stories. It was reported that he had fallen, but upon arrival Buzz was not his normal self. He was slow to speak and appeared confused. He was transported to Kennestone and I know he wouldn’t mind some company. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
They are running some more tests on him but the doctor suspected TIA. His sugar levels continue to be elevated and he is on insulin. He had some facial droop and trouble communicating. His spirits were up and he would love to see some friends. Take some time it will mean much to him.

A Gwinnett County (GA) Firefighter was injured this morning when he was trapped by collapsing debris at a house fire. Functioning as the incident safety officer, he was walking the perimeter of the dwelling when a portion of the roof and wall collapsed. The debris knocked him to the ground and pinned his legs under the collapse. He was able to transmit a mayday call over his radio at the RIT team deployed and quickly extricated him. He was conscious and talking before being taken to the hospital for treatment of his non life-threatening injuries.
