All firefighter's except Matt Broderick were treated and released yesterday. Broderick was released this morning and will be out for a few shifts. I will contact him later today to find out how he is doing. If you are interested in listening to the radio traffic from teh fire go to www.scandekalb.com look under the scanner archive with 7/17/2008. The entire call is from 0741 but the MAYDAY is in between 0811-0826. The mayday itself is at exactly 6 minutes.

I am getting phone calls about 3 Dekalb FFs from 24. There was a floor collapse in a large single family dwelling, 2 firefighter's Broderick and Crawford are en route to Crawford Long with Smoke Inhalation. A 3rd firefighter Zuke is en route to Grady. There are AFD firefighters going to the hospital to check on condition and obtain more information. When I have further info it will be posted. Keep these 3 brothers in your thoughts and prayers.

 

Initial Reports were very sketchy and coming from a FF on scene.

This is from a Captain at 24s:

Zuke is at Dekalb Medical with neck, back, leg, and all over pain. He fell from the 2nd floor into the basement when the collapse occurred. Broderick and Dirt are at Atlanta Medical. Both were in the basement during the collapse and were covered with debris. Broderick took in a lot of smoke and heat and is having a hard time catching his breath. Dirt also took in some smoke but is not a bad a Brokerick. I'll send you more info when it becomes available. Any info I send out is coming from their Captain and not rumor. JJ

It is with deep regret that the Cobb County Fire Department announces the passing this morning of much beloved Fire Lieutenant Jared N. Carson (38). Jared courageously battled cancer for the past several years and it finally took him. He leaves behind his wife Amy and children Tanner (15) and Marybeth (12). Lt. Carson will be missed terribly. Funeral arrangements to follow later today.

 

Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, at West Cobb Funeral Home, 2480 Macland Road, Marietta, GA 30064, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

 

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 12, at Grace Baptist Church, 5790 Powder Springs Dallas Road, Hiram, GA 30141. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park located at 1306 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, GA 30064.

 

Dress uniforms or station wear is acceptable for the funeral. All badges should be shrouded. Station flags will be flown at half staff until sundown on Saturday. Engineer Jeff Copeland is the family liaison.

Please keep the Carson family in your thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.
