It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Detective Danny Redmon, a 22 year veteran of the Roswell Police Department. Danny came to our department as an experienced police officer from the Wayne County (Michigan) Sheriffs Office.

Danny was an excellent example of a professional law enforcement officer and was always willing to help those in need. Danny was known for his humor and love of a good joke. He had a passion for motorcycles both professionally and in his private life and used that passion to help others. His passing will leave a void in the daily operations of the department and he will be deeply missed.

Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday September 15 from 2pm-5pm and later in the evening from 6pm- 8pm.

Funeral services will be held at Huey Funeral Home on Wednesday September 16 at 11am.

A procession will meet at the Roswell City Hall parking lot on Wednesday morning at 0900 for departure to the funeral home.  Sergeant William Anastasio will coordinate the procession.

This is a quick e mail about the status of Shane West (Cherokee Fire) 9 year old son

Andrew "Dru" West was diagnosed with a brain tumor about 2 1/2 years ago. The tumor was near his brain stem and was a very risky surgery. However, if the surgery was not performed, death was approaching. Drew went in for the surgery with a 60% chance of coming out of the surgery. Then to begin the recovery.

Dru was a trooper and came out of the surgery, began chemo and radiation, and beat all the odds. He went through 6 rough weeks of radiation and 18 months of chemotherapy. He was doing great.
Recently, he began having seizures. They immediately took him to the hospital. The neurologist said they found a small mass on his brain. They decided to watch it to see if it was growing. This past Saturday, Dru had another seizure. They took him to Egleston. The Doctors then told Shane that the "mass" was bleeding. An emergency surgery was necessary.

Yesterday, Sept 1 2009, Dru had his second emergency brain surgery. The surgery took just over 4 hours. The "mass" had doubled in size and was much larger than they expected. The doctors were originally going to perform the procedure with a small, moon shaped incision behind the left ear. They ended up doing an incision that went from one ear, to the top of his head, and to the other ear. Dru had stopped breathing during the procedure. It took him longer than they expected to begin breathing on his own. He was placed on a vent and put in PICU. He remains there today but has made significant progress. Dru woke up today, was breathing on his own, and able to eat and talk. He has controlled movement of all his extremities. However, he has not been out of bed yet. It is unknown if any deficits have occurred. Dru will be put in a recovery room soon, hopefully tonight. He is at Egleston Hospital. I will update you with further info as I receive it if you wish. I have spoke with Chief Papoutsis about seeing how the foundation can help.

This family needs all the prayers it can get. Please remember the West family during this rough time.
